MP Police seize 53 illegal firearms in statewide crackdown

Bhopal: Sustained patrolling and an active intelligence network have enabled the Madhya Pradesh Police to register a series of significant actions against illegal firearms across several districts of the state. Over the past 15 days, police teams have seized a total of 53 illegal weapons, live ammunition, weapon-manufacturing machinery and large quantities of raw material from different locations.

In Morena district, a major operation against arms trafficking led to the arrest of five accused and the seizure of 12 pistols of .32 bore, 20 live rounds and eight magazines. In Barwani, acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a suspect transporting weapons allegedly procured from Maharashtra, recovering two country-made pistols, six 12-bore improvised firearms and five live cartridges.

In Dewas, alert patrolling and intelligence inputs resulted in raids at two locations, with two persons detained. Police recovered six country-made pistols, one revolver, one improvised firearm and three live cartridges. Further investigation is underway to trace their criminal links and supply networks.

In Burhanpur, police busted an illegal arms manufacturing unit operating in forested hill areas. Five ready pistols, seven semi-finished pistols, machines, moulds and tools worth about Rs 2.5 lakh were seized, though some suspects escaped.

Similar actions in Chhatarpur, Datia, Panna and Satna led to additional recoveries. Police said these operations underscore their commitment to maintaining law and order and preventing serious crimes by curbing illegal arms activity in the state.
