Bhopal: A high-level meeting chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana was held at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) conference room in Bhopal to finalise a comprehensive three-year action plan aimed at eradicating illegal narcotics from Madhya Pradesh. The meeting was convened in compliance with directions issued during the Apex Committee meeting chaired by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister on January 9, 2026.
Addressing senior officers, the DGP said the state would work in complete alignment with the national goal of a “Drug-Free India” from April 1, 2026, over the next three years. He noted that the police-led awareness campaign ‘Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori’ had generated significant public consciousness, reinforced by directives issued by the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister during the DG–IG Conference in November 2025.
Drawing a parallel with the early elimination of Naxalism from the state, Makwana said narcotics would now be treated as an equally serious challenge. He directed officers to dismantle drug mafias by breaking supply and demand chains, identifying hotspots in districts such as Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Bhopal and Indore, and ensuring strict action near educational institutions.
The three-year strategy focuses on supply reduction, demand reduction, harm reduction and inter-departmental coordination. In 2025 alone, police registered 4,116 NDPS cases, arrested 5,275 accused and seized over 64,600 kg of narcotics. Senior officials from central agencies and allied departments were present at the meeting.
