Bhopal,  Lakhan Patel, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Animal Husbandry and Dairy, emphasized the critical role of milk production in India’s economic progress. Speaking at an Artificial Insemination (AI) training and orientation workshop, he highlighted the significant potential to increase milk output through breed improvement in cattle and buffaloes.

“Breed improvement in cattle and buffaloes through artificial insemination must be undertaken as a mission,” Minister Patel stated. Under Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav’s leadership, Madhya Pradesh has set an ambitious target to raise milk production from 9% to 20%. “We need to achieve this swiftly,” he urged, noting that quality AI and enhanced breeding coverage are key to this growth. He also called for the effective implementation of the central government’s National Artificial Insemination Program across the state.

The workshop, held at the State Animal Husbandry Training Institute in Bhopal on Monday, covered crucial topics. Participants engaged in discussions on increasing milk production, launching breed improvement campaigns, sorted-sexed semen technology, silage production, and feed and fodder management.

Key attendees included Umakant Umrao (Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Dairy), Dr. Satyendra Singh (Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Dairy), Dr. P.S. Patel (Director, Animal Husbandry & Dairy), Dr. Umesh Chandra Sharma (President, Indian Veterinary Council, New Delhi), and other senior officials.
