MP Employees’ Forum to launch ‘Chipko’ protest against tree felling

  • Green Movement

Bhopal: In a bold move to protect Bhopal’s greenery, the MP Employees’ Forum has announced a symbolic Chipko movement starting May 18. Forum President Ashok Pandey revealed that around 8,000 trees are being cut for road construction projects in the capital—drawing strong opposition from citizens and environmental groups alike.

Calling for sustainable development, the Forum will tie Rakhi (protective threads) around trees and physically embrace them in protest, demanding that the government cancel decisions leading to mass deforestation. Pandey criticized the irony of tree-cutting amid government campaigns like “One Tree in Mother’s Name” and the Ladli Laxmi tree-planting drive initiated by the Chief Minister. “We appeal to the CM to withdraw this anti-environmental decision,” he stated.
