MP: 26 sheep die after speeding truck runs over herd

Betul (MP), Nov 2 (UNI) Twenty-six sheep died on the spot and about half a dozen were grievously injured when a speeding trailer truck plowed into a herd crossing a road near Kursana village in this district’s Chicholi Police Station limits.

The incident occurred last evening on the Harda-Betul stretch of National Highway-47.

According to eye-witnesses, the truck bearing a Rajasthan number plate was heading towards Indore from here. The herd was returning to Rajasthan from the direction of Harda. The driver absconded, but the vehicle has been seized.

Traffic was obstructed for a while on the highway. The sheep belonged to Jalone district’s Gaderiya Muda-resident, Ram Riwariya, who had brought the herd for grazing in different areas of Madhya Pradesh. Villagers demanded that compensation be paid.
