MoRD launches National Campaign on Entrepreneurship of Lakhpati Didi initiative, aims to train 50 lakh SHGs

New Delhi. Jan 15 (UNI) Giving a push to the Lakhpati didi initiative and including more women, the Ministry of Rural Development has launched a National Campaign on Entrepreneurship.

Through this campaign, launched on January 12, about 50,000 Community Resource Persons (CRPs) in enterprise promotion and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) will provide training to about 50 lakh women Self Help Group (SHG) members under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).

Existing under a non-farm livelihood model, the programme will propel and accelerate non-farm rural enterprise development and strengthen grassroots entrepreneurship capacity. The Ministry aims to create three crore ‘Lakhpati didi’ women SHG members, helping them earn rupees one lakh or more annually.

The initiative is expected to increase development across the rural sector and help them become financially independent. Since the inception of the Lakhpati Didi initiative, more than one crore SHG women have already been made Lakhpati Didis. Lakhpati Didi is a Self-Help Group member who earns an annual household income of Rupees One Lakh (Rs. 1,00,000) or more.

This income is calculated for at least four agricultural seasons and/or business cycles, with an average monthly income exceeding Rs. 10,000 so that it is sustainable.

The scheme focuses on diversified livelihood activities, by ensuring convergence across all Government departments/ Ministries, Private sector and Market players whose strategy includes focused planning, adequate and timely support on assets, finance, market, technology etc., implementation and monitoring at all levels.

The Lakhpati Didi initiative, under India’s DAY-NRLM, gained significant momentum and official focus starting in late 2023, with key presentations in October 2023, workshops in mid-2023, and the target raised in the February 2024 Budget.
