Bhopal, Brace yourselves, Madhya Pradesh! The Meteorological Department has issued a stark warning: heavy rainfall is expected to drench the entire state for the next four days, with an Orange Alert declared for several districts until June 30th. The monsoon is in full swing, and its active phase promises intense downpours.

Districts on high alert

Friday is anticipated to bring exceptionally heavy rain to Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Balaghat, and Mandla districts, prompting the Met Department to issue an Orange Alert for these regions.

Beyond these areas, widespread rainfall is also highly probable across other districts including Maihar, Indore, Bhopal, Vidisha, Panna, Mauganj, Satna, Katni, Jabalpur, and Narsinghpur. Accompanying the rain, winds are expected to gust at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h, adding to the intensity of the weather. A general alert has been issued for the entire state, urging residents to prepare for severe weather conditions.

Meteorological insights

According to meteorologists, the intensified rainfall is due to a cyclonic circulation extending from north-eastern Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and northern Odisha to the north-western Bay of Bengal, reaching an altitude of 1.5 km above mean sea level. Furthermore, an upper air cyclonic circulation is active between 5.8 and 7.6 km above mean sea level over the west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal, off the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts. These atmospheric systems are combining to bring significant and widespread precipitation across the region.
