Mona Singh unleashes new look as sand mafia Babli Didi from ‘Subedaar’

Mumbai, Mar 2 (UNI) Known television face Mona Singh is set to surprise audiences with the powerful character of Babli Didi from “Subedaar”.

Prime Video’s “Subedar” has delivered an unexpected casting surprise. As Babli Didi, Mona Singh plays a woman who has inherited a criminal background. She runs several illegal sand mining operations from behind the scenes of a prison and constantly keeps Subedar Arjun Maurya (Anil Kapoor) on her toes. Powerful, unpredictable, and grounded in the realities of the country, this is a Mona Singh avatar audiences have never seen before.

Mona Singh said, “I got a call from Suresh (Triveni), who’s a good friend of mine. He said, ‘Mona, I’m offering you a role you’ve never done before.’ He narrated the script to me and told me about my character, and my reaction was, ‘Oh my God! What have you given me?’ I had never done anything like this before.”

Describing Babli Didi as mercurial and unapologetic, Singh noted that the character’s unpredictability and moral ambiguity were precisely what drew her in.

Mona Singh said, “You have to capture the heartland dialect and you’re also playing the role of a goon Didi. You’re running the entire sand mafia. And I keep Subedar Ji (Anil Kapoor) unhappy throughout the film. A lot of the action is happening because of Didi. So it was challenging.”

As performers, one gravitates towards parts that disturb one’s comfort and compel introspection; this role did precisely that for Mona.

Directed by Suresh and produced by Vikram Malhotra, Anil Kapoor and Triveni, “Subedaar” is mounted by Opening Image Films in association with Anil Kapoor Film & Communication Network.

Written by Suresh and Prajwal Chandrashekhar, this powerful and emotional action-drama stars Anil Kapoor and Radhika Madan in lead roles. Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Faisal Malik, Mona Singh and Khushboo Sundar also play pivotal roles.

“Subedar” will premiere on March 5 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on Prime Video in India and in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
