Delhi, BJP chief Mange Ram Garg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Garg played a pivotal role in strengthening BJP in the national capital. ‘Shri Mange Ram Garg Ji had a deep connect with Delhi and that was seen in the manner in which he selflessly served the people of the city. He played a pivotal role in strengthening BJP in Delhi. His demise is saddening. My thoughts are with his family and supporters. Om Shanti,’ Mr Modi tweeted.
‘Leaders like Shri Mange Ram Garg Ji are assets for any party. They work selflessly at the grassroots and touch the lives of several people through various community service initiatives. The good work Garg Ji did would continue to be remembered for years,’ the Prime Minister tweeted. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also condoled the former Delhi BJP chief’s demise.
In a tweet, the Defence Minister said Mange Ram Garg played a big role in strengthening the BJP. Senior Delhi BJP leader and former Delhi BJP chief Mange Ram Garg died on Sunday after a prolonged illness, party sources said. Mr Garg, who had been keeping unwell since a long time, was admitted to Balaji hospital in Paschim Vihar, four days ago .
He died at 0730 hours, party sources further said. His body would be kept at the Delhi BJP headquarters, for party workers, to pay homage to him. A veteran in Delhi politics, Mr Garg, registered his first political win in 2003 when he won from
the Wazirpur Assembly constituency. In 2008 Assembly elections, he lost to Hari Shanker Gupta of Congress but by
only about three thousand votes. With Mr Garg as Delhi BJP chief, party registered strong performances in local municipal body elections. The party gave him an important responsibility in 2019 Lok Sabha elections to strengthen it in Delhi, the party sources added.
