Kolkata, (UNI) Two policemen, including an ASI, were injured in a shootout at Goalpokhar in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district, as miscreants opened fire and snatched an undertrial on Wednesday.
The attack took place when the policemen were returning in a prison van from a court of law under Islampur sub-division, official sources said.
The miscreants also snatched the undertrial, identified as Sajjad Alam.
The injured cops, identified as Nishikata Sarkar and Debesh Baidhya, attached to the West Bengal Police, were admitted at the Islampur Sub-divisional Hospital with bullet wounds.
They were operated upon for extracting the bullets and later shifted to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, sources added.
However, some other sources said it was not immediately known if the miscreants from outside fired at the policemen or the undertrial snatched the weapons and shot at them.
The incident happened at Panjipara under Goalpokhar in Islampur sub division.
