New Delhi, Aug 28 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today said it has issued notices to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Roorkee in a case pertaining to the alleged sexual abuse of a minor boy by an Imam at a mosque in the Jhabreda area of the Uttarakhand’s district on August 20, 2025.
In a statement issued here, it said that it has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report in the matter.
Reportedly, the victim had gone to study in the mosque.
“The Commission has observed that the contents of the news report, if true, raise serious issues of violation of the human rights of the victim. Therefore, it has issued notices to the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police, Roorkee, calling for a detailed report in the matter within two weeks,” said the statement.
According to the media report, carried on August, 22, 2025, the perpetrator took the boy to his room forcefully and committed the heinous act. He also threatened the victim of dire consequences if he revealed the incident to anyone. The child informed his family about the incident after reaching home, resulting in prompt intervention by the rights body.
