Military plane crash in Sudan leaves 19 dead – Reports

Khartoum, Feb 26 (UNI) At least 19 people were killed in a crash of a Sudanese military plane in Sudan’s Omdurman, media reported on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the Alrakoba newspaper reported that a military plane had crashed near Omdurman, killing the crew and officers on board. The Sudanese army later confirmed the crash of the plane.

The Antonov military plane crashed shortly after taking off from the Wadi Seidna airbase, killing 19 people, including both military personnel and civilians, Al Sudani newspaper reported.

The commander of operations in the Bahri region, Bahar Ahmed Bahar, was among the victims, the newspaper reported.

Khartoum Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza visited the crash site and offered his condolences to the families of the victims.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been fighting the regular Sudanese army for control of the country since April 2023. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has said that the ongoing fighting could lead to the collapse of the health care system. Sudanese Ambassador to Russia Mohamed Siraj told Sputnik in an interview on January 4 that the armed conflict would hopefully end in 2025.
