Mid-Day meal worker brutally murdered inside Kangra School

Dharamshala, Feb 13 (UNI) In a shocking incident on Thursday afternoon, a 58-year-old mid-day meal worker was brutally killed inside the premises of Government Primary School, Chanour, in the Dehra subdivision of Kangra district.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 12:30 pm when the deceased, identified as Sulochana Devi, wife of Vishambhar Das and a resident of Chanour, was preparing meals in the school kitchen. An unidentified youth allegedly attacked her with a sharp-edged agricultural tool, killing her on the spot.
Centre Head Teacher Sarita Devi said that upon hearing the screams of children, she rushed outside and saw the assailant repeatedly attacking Sulochana Devi. Sensing the gravity of the situation, teachers immediately locked the children inside classrooms to ensure their safety and prevent further harm.
The staff attempted to intervene, but the attacker reportedly tried to assault them as well. Meanwhile, teachers from the nearby Government Senior Secondary School, Chanour, reached the spot and tried to drive away the accused by pelting stones, following which he fled from the scene.
Confirming the incident, Dehra DSP Raj Kumar said that Dadasiba police reached the spot immediately after receiving information. The victim’s body was taken into custody and sent to Dadasiba Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police have collected crucial evidence and launched a detailed investigation.
“The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. Special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused, and raids are being conducted at suspected locations,” the DSP said. The gruesome incident inside the school campus has triggered panic in the area. Parents, villagers and teachers have expressed deep shock and anger over the incident. Police arrested the accused youth late last evening.
