Bengaluru, India Men’s hockey have been placed in Pool A along with defending Olympic Champions Argentina, Australia, Spain, New Zealand and Japan while Womem’s team are clubbed in Pool A with Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, and South Africa for the 2020 Olympic Games draw.
The FIH announced the draw on Saturday night.
India ranked as the third highest team behind Australia and Argentina are grouped in an easier pool A compared to Pool B which has Belgium, Netherlands, Germany apart from Great Britain, Canada and South Africa.
Indian men’s and women’s team cannot take any team lightly and they need to be at their best in every match in Pool stage to make the quarter-finals. The women’s team on the other hand are grouped in a tough Pool B where they play World Champions Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and South Africa.
India who have faced Ireland and Great Britain in the past year are familiar with them and know how to execute their game plan when facing both, but Netherland is one team India would love to beat as they have played fewer matches against them. In the women pool B, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, Spain, China and Japan are clubbed together.
