Mehfil Andaaz revives guru–shishya tradition at Swami Tansen Haridas Mahotsav 2026

New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Echoing the traditional guru-shishya parampara, Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts is all set to revive the intimate “Mehfil Andaaz” with three evenings of music and dance as part of the Swami Tansen Haridas Mahotsav 2026, beginning Friday.

From vocal recitals to Kathak performances, the stage at Shankar Lal Hall, Modern School, Barakhamba Road, will be shared by some of India’s finest maestros and performers, in a tribute to the legendary Swami Haridas and Tansen.

Elaborating on the festival’s vision, rooted in inspiring the younger generation to embrace India’s cultural heritage, Padma Bhushan awardee Uma Sharma, the guiding force behind the event, said the performances will begin every evening at 9 pm. “While today’s youth gravitate towards Western and pop music, it is imperative to preserve and promote the timeless legacy of Indian classical arts. This festival aims to inspire the next generation to cherish our musical heritage,” she said.

The festival will witness a confluence of classical performances by luminaries including Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia (Flute), Begum Parween Sultana (Vocal), Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (Vocal), Pt Ulhas Kashalkar (Vocal), Ustad Shujaat Khan (Sitar), Pt Vishwamohan Bhatt (Mohan Veena), and Pt Salil Bhatt (Satvik Veena) accompanied by Manganiyars from Rajasthan.

Dance enthusiasts will be treated to Kathak performances by Uma Sharma and her disciples, while Ustad Amaan Ali Bangash (Sarod) and Pt Rahul Shivkumar Sharma (Santoor) will round off the musical offerings.

The cultural evenings are open to all and are supported by Bhartiya Sangeet Sadan (Uma Sharma School of Dance & Music), HCL, Indian National Theatre Trust, Modern School, and SRF Ltd.
