MCD launches 10-day drive to clear garbage, C&D waste from railway tracks and roads

New Delhi, March (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a special 10-day intensive drive across the national capital to remove garbage and construction and demolition (C&D) waste from railway tracks, roads, lanes, and other vulnerable public spaces in a bid to improve sanitation and curb dust pollution.

According to civic officials, the campaign aims to clear municipal solid waste, C&D debris, and other garbage from roads, service lanes, open plots, drain embankments, and areas along railway tracks across different zones of the city.

Priority during the drive is being given to the removal of garbage accumulated along railway tracks and construction debris dumped on roads and other critical locations.

Zonal Deputy Commissioners have already carried out assessments of waste lying near railway tracks in coordination with railway authorities, following which the respective zones have begun clearing operations.

As part of the campaign, sanitation teams are clearing C&D waste and garbage from roads, lanes, and by-lanes, lifting municipal solid waste from railway track areas, and cleaning open plots, vacant land, and drain embankments.

To further control dust pollution, water sprinklers and anti-smog guns are also being deployed on major roads during the drive.

The first day of the campaign witnessed significant progress across the city. Around 250 metric tonnes of garbage were removed from areas along railway tracks, while nearly 500 tonnes of waste were cleared from roads and other vulnerable spots by sanitation teams across various zones, officials informed.

The civic body has directed all zonal officials to mobilise adequate manpower, machinery, and logistical support to ensure the effective implementation of the drive.
