MCD committees give series of suggestions on sanitation, health, education, revenue

New Delhi, Dec 30 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has initiated the process of finalizing the Revised Budget Estimates and the Budget Estimates for 2026-27.

In this sequence, a special meeting of the Standing Committee was convened on Tuesday, during which the Chairpersons of six special and ad hoc committees of MCD presented budget proposals related to their respective departments.

Detailed budget proposals were presented by the Chairpersons of the DEMS Committee, Works Committee, Health Committee, Education Committee, Horticulture Committee and Rural Committee.

These proposals and suggestions focused particularly on strengthening sanitation systems, improving construction and maintenance works, expanding civic health services, reinforcing the education system, conserving green areas and parks, and ensuring the overall development of rural areas.

Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Satya Sharma stated that all suggestions received from the committees would be incorporated to prepare a comprehensive, balanced and public-oriented budget.

During the meeting, the Chairpersons of various committees presented detailed suggestions concerning the requirements, priorities and future plans of their respective departments.

”All these suggestions will be given due consideration and incorporated in the forthcoming budget.” she added.
Suggestions given by various committees includes provision of one JCB machine and one sweeping machine in each ward.

Deployment of 10 additional sanitation workers for each Municipal Councillor to ensure cleanliness across the ward. Separate budget allocation for maintenance of dhalaos and public toilets.

Provision of funds for clearing pending arrears of sanitation workers.

Leasing out closed dhalaos to private companies to enhance the Corporation’s revenue.

Education ommittee suggested the utilization of outer walls of Municipal Corporation schools for advertisements, as these schools are located at prime locations with separate entrances, thereby generating revenue for the Corporation.

Installation of ATM machines in school premises where population density is high and adequate space is available, to generate additional revenue. To enhance revenue from municipal schools, school playgrounds may be made available to NGOs and academies under the PPP model for Khelo India and Fit India initiatives, ensuring free coaching for Corporation school students.

Works committee suggested the creation of a separate budget head for repair of public toilets. Repair and maintenance of community centres to increase bookings and ensure year-round revenue generation.

Enhancement of the Municipal Councillor Fund to Rs. 2 crore to enable Councillors to effectively carry out development works in their respective areas. Development of parking facilities on vacant Corporation land to reduce encroachment and generate revenue.

Rural committee suggested the allocation of funds for upliftment of villages to facilitate development of village roads and lanes.

Formulation of a separate policy for rural areas and installation of lights to eliminate dark spots. Reclaiming Gram Sabha land transferred to DDA and utilizing it for setting up health centres or compactors, using funds from the Delhi Gramodaya Abhiyan and Delhi Village Development Board.

Health committee suggested the provision of additional budget to strengthen healthcare services in Municipal Corporation hospitals and Proposal to conduct anti-rabies vaccination drives along with microchipping of stray dogs, for which additional budgetary provisions are required.

Alao, Horticulture committee suggested the allocation of additional funds for environmental conversation and pollution control measures.
