Gorakhpur, March 5 (UNI) A tragic road accident has been reported from Gorakhpur, where a speeding SUV coming from the wrong side rammed into several vehicles, killing an MBBS student.
The incident occurred on the Mohaddipur–Kauabagh Overbridge on Wednesday night. According to eyewitnesses, a speeding Toyota Fortuner entered the overbridge from the wrong direction and crashed into multiple vehicles.
During the collision, a scooter rider, identified as Akash Pandey, a third-year MBBS student of BRD Medical College, was severely hit. The impact was so strong that his body was thrown and got stuck on the railing of the overbridge.
Local residents and police from Shahpur Police Station and Cantt Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving the information. With the help of locals, the injured were taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared Akash Pandey dead. Other injured victims are currently undergoing treatment in serious condition.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to the mortuary. The Fortuner involved in the accident has been seized, and the driver, Golden Sahani, has been taken into custody.
According to Abhinav Tyagi, a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the driver, and he is being questioned.
Akash Pandey was originally from Sant Kabir Nagar District. News of his untimely death has caused deep grief among students and doctors at the medical college as well as in his hometown.
