Mayor apologizes after party’s stern intervention over council changes

  • Now she will change her previous decision

Bhopal: Sagar’s Mayor, Sangeeta Tiwari, on April 27, appeared before Madhya Pradesh BJP President Vishnu Dutt Sharma following the party’s strict reprimand over changes made in the Mayor’s Council without prior approval from the state organization. In a formal apology, she assured the party that she would reverse her earlier decision and restore the previous structure of the council.

The controversy stemmed from Tiwari’s recent decision to remove Councillor Asharani Jain and replace her with Councillor Shailendra Singh Thakur in the Mayor’s Council. This change led to significant political uproar in Sagar, prompting the state party leadership to issue a notice to the Mayor and summon her on April 26. However, she could not attend the meeting on that day due to personal reasons, as she was in Pune attending to her ailing mother-in-law.

During the meeting with party leaders, including Sharma, state General Secretary Hitanand, and Bhagwandas Sabnani, Tiwari was reminded that discipline within the organization is paramount, and any changes in the Mayor’s Council must be approved by the state leadership. Acknowledging this, Tiwari pledged to restore the council to its original form.

This incident is part of the party’s broader crackdown on leaders acting independently or making public statements without the organization’s approval. In recent days, several leaders, including legislators and mayors from other regions, have faced similar reprimands and have been made to apologize for their actions.
