New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam today called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan and separately also called on Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, on the concluding day of his eight-day state visit.
The Mauritius PM, who leaves today after concluding his state visit to India, called on President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
During the talks, both leaders agreed that the relations between the two countries are unique, “rooted in our shared history, language, culture, and values”.
“The President expressed confidence that with the vast leadership experience of Prime Minister Ramgoolam, India-Mauritius long-standing bilateral ties will further strengthen in the times to come,” said a post from the President’s House.
He also met Vice President CP Radhakrishnan at the Vice-President’s Enclave. “Discussions focused on strengthening trade, economic, and people-to-people ties between India and Mauritius,” said a post from the VP’s office.
In the morning, the Mauritius PM visited Rajghat and paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi. He also paid tribute to former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee at the Sadaiv Atal memorial. He also visited the New Parliament building.
Over the past few days, the Mauritius PM visited the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and offered prayers, and also prayed at the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. Yesterday, he went to Tirupati, in Andhra Pradesh, to offer prayers.
The Mauritius PM posted on his Facebook page: “Our spiritual journey in India took us from the sacred banks of the Ganges in Varanasi, to offering prayers at the revered Kashi Vishwanath Mandir and culminating with a visit to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. This pilgrimage reflects the profound cultural and spiritual ties that continue to unite Mauritius and India.”
The Mauritius PM, who arrived in India on September 9 on his first overseas bilateral visit since taking over as prime minister last year, had also visited Mumbai for a business event.
He had held talks with PM Modi in Varanasi on September 11, during which the two sides unveiled several MoUs to take forward the bilateral ties.
India and Mauritius share a close and special relationship rooted in shared historical, cultural and people to people ties. As India’s key maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region, Mauritius holds a special place in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region) and the ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and is a key partner in the Global South, a statement said.
The visit of Prime Minister Dr. Ramgoolam to India, following the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Mauritius in March 2025, will advance the strong and enduring bonds between India and Mauritius, it added.
