Massive fire erupts in Arunachal’s Khonsa market during Diwali night; no casualties reported

Itanagar, Oct 21 (UNI) A massive fire broke out last night at Khonsa Market in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district around 11:30 pm, reportedly triggered by firecrackers during Diwali celebrations, official sources said.

The blaze spread rapidly through several shops and nearby houses, creating panic among residents. Swift action by the Assam Rifles troops, in coordination with the District Fire Department, CRPF personnel and local residents, managed to contain the inferno before it could cause further devastation.

Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported so far. However, several shops and properties have been damaged and a detailed assessment of property losses is currently underway.

Unconfirmed sources said that at least six shops were completely destroyed in the fire and dozens damaged during the course of firefighting.

Officials praised the timely and coordinated response of all agencies involved, noting that their quick intervention averted a major tragedy.
