Farrukhabad, Oct 18 (UNI) A massive fire broke out at a bio-oil factory in Sadhikpur village, under the Nawabganj police station area, on Saturday evening, triggering panic in nearby areas.
The fire, which started around 6:30 pm, quickly escalated into a major blaze, with flames reaching up to 25 meters high and visible from nearly a kilometer away.
Soon after the fire erupted, residents of nearby homes fled the area, fearing an explosion due to the presence of fuel and gas cylinders inside the plant.
Several people were seen evacuating their belongings as the fire spread rapidly.
According to officials, around 3,000 liters of diesel were stored in the factory’s tanks, and several commercial LPG cylinders were also kept inside, intensifying the flames.
The fire continued to rage for over three hours despite efforts by two fire engines to control it.
Top district officials, including District Magistrate Ashutosh Kumar Dwivedi, Superintendent of Police Arti Singh, ADM Arun Kumar, and other local authorities, rushed to the site to oversee the situation.
The factory, spread over approximately 22 bighas, posed a significant risk due to the flammable materials stored inside. To aid firefighting efforts, water was transported from the nearby Chaurasiya village, where submersible pumps and tube wells were used to fill fire trucks.
As a precautionary measure, traffic on the Delhi-Farrukhabad route has been halted.
DM Ashutosh Kumar Dwivedi confirmed that the fire was caused by a short circuit. He added that while one person sustained burn injuries and was sent to the district hospital, no fatalities have been reported so far.
“The situation is under control,” he said.
Emergency services remain on alert as efforts continue to fully extinguish the blaze and prevent further spread.
