Massive AIIMS Plasma Theft Busted

  • Rs 12 Lakh Worth of Blood Plasma Recovered

Bhopal: Bagsewania police have cracked a major case involving the theft of life-saving blood plasma from the AIIMS Bhopal Blood Bank. The heist, which involved 1150 units of FFP (Fresh Frozen Plasma) packets valued at approximately Rs 12 lakh, was orchestrated by an outsourced employee and a network of accomplices.

Insider Plot and Nationwide Network

The investigation began on September 29, 2025, after the theft was reported by AIIMS security. Police arrested Ankit Kelkar, an outsourced employee at the AIIMS blood bank, who had leveraged his access to plot the crime before his contract ended. Kelkar conspired with former associates Amit Jatav and Lucky Pathak.

The stolen plasma was funnelled through Lucky Pathak and his brother Deepak Pathak, who had contacts with blood banks outside the state. They sold the plasma at Rs 5,800 per litre to Sham Badgujar (running a blood bank in Indore) and Karan Chavan (Aurangabad). The final buyers intended to sell the stolen products to pharmaceutical companies for use in producing medicines and life-saving treatments like albumin for burn patients.

Arrests and Recovery

Police have successfully arrested six accused—including the four main conspirators and the two buyers—and recovered 1123 units of plasma. Additionally, a significant amount of the cash proceeds from the sale, Rs 8.57 lakh, was seized. The police team, utilizing technical surveillance, is currently investigating the possibility of further individuals involved in the sophisticated racket.
