In a communication to Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, local Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentarian Shankar Lalwani – serving his maiden tenure in the House of the People – has raised eyebrows over a proposed head / leg massage facility in 39 trains – including the Dehradun-Indore Express, New Delhi-Indore Intercity Express and Indore-Amritsar Express – under Ratlam Division.
“It flies in the face of public sentiments and what is the justification in providing such below-the-mark arrangements instead of medical services for passengers,” the MP wrote.
Interacting with UNI over phone, the representative averred that numerous city-based women’s organisations lodged protests with him and such an amenity may be proper for tourist trains but does it appear appropriate – vis-a-vis Indian cultural standards – in passenger trains?
“Giving or availing massages in front of lady travellers may cause an uneasy situation. Therefore, my letter dated June 10 urges the Minister to take a decision after due consideration,” Mr Lalwani said.
Official sources said that a Rs 20 lakh contract has already been awarded to a firm and the convenience is to commence at the end of June.
