Bhopal, With only two days left for Dhanteras, markets across the city were abuzz with activity as shoppers thronged popular shopping destinations like Chowk Bazaar, New Market, MP Nagar, Manisha Market, Jumerati, Jahangirabad, and Bittan Market. The bustling atmosphere reflected the eagerness of customers who were out in large numbers to purchase traditional items, gold, silver, and household goods to celebrate the auspicious festival.
Roadside vendors are selling Diyas, candles, decorative items and other items. Makeshift shops have sprung up all over the city.
Shopkeepers expressed optimism for a record-breaking festive season, citing a notable increase in foot traffic compared to previous years. Many shop owners are hopeful that this Dhanteras will bring a significant boost in sales, a welcome relief following quieter seasons over the past few years. “The crowd today has been phenomenal. People seem excited to buy, and there’s been a clear interest in everything from jewelry to home décor,” said Rajesh Verma, a jeweler at New Market.
The surge in customers was visible in each market. Chowk Bazaar and Jahangirabad saw a high demand for silver coins and jewelry, while New Market and MP Nagar bustled with shoppers looking for electronics and festive decor. Bittan Market, known for its variety, was teeming with people purchasing everything from kitchenware to fashionable ethnic clothing. Manisha Market and Jumerati also saw brisk business, particularly in traditional wear and home furnishings.
Customers shared that they were willing to splurge this season, aiming to bring in prosperity and celebrate Dhanteras with vigor. “After a couple of low-key years, it feels good to celebrate with full enthusiasm,” said Priya Sharma, a shopper at MP Nagar.
As anticipation builds for Dhanteras, both shopkeepers and customers alike look forward to the festive season bringing positivity and prosperity to the markets, signaling a strong season of spending.
