- Assaults minor on train
Bhopal, A special court under the POCSO Act has sentenced Satnam Singh to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ?10,000 for the rape of a minor girl in a train’s pantry car. The verdict was pronounced by the Hon’ble Thirteenth Additional Sessions Judge/Special Judge, POCSO Act, in Bhopal. Special Public Prosecutors Tribhuvan Prasad Gautam, Sarla Kahar, and Laxmi Kasav represented the prosecution.
The incident occurred on July 18, 2022, when the victim was traveling on Train No. 11078 Jhelum Express. After disembarking for water at Bhopal station, and feeling hungry but without money for food, she sat near the AC coach gate. An unknown man, later identified as Satnam Singh, lured her into the pantry car under the pretext of offering food, where he then assaulted her.
The initial report was filed at GRP Bhusawal Police Station, which transferred the case to GRP Habibganj Police Station due to jurisdiction. The case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. After a thorough investigation, the court found Satnam Singh guilty, agreeing with the prosecution’s arguments, evidence, and scientific findings that corroborated the crime.
