Mamata expresses shock at the alleged suicide of a woman BLO in Nadia

Kolkata, Nov 22 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been opposing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state and has demanded an immediate halt to the process, on Saturday expressed shock at the death of a woman Block Level Officer (BLO) allegedly by suicide in Nadia district.

“Profoundly shocked to know of the death of yet another BLO, a lady para-teacher, who has committed suicide at Krishnanagar today. The BLO of part number 201 of AC 82 Chapra, Smt Rinku Tarafdar, has blamed ECI in her suicide note before committing suicide at her residence today,” said Banerjee who heads the Trinamool Congress.

“How many more lives will be lost? How many more need to die for this SIR? How many more dead bodies shall we see for this process? This has become truly alarming now,” she noted.

The ruling TMC also expressed shock and said that one more life was crushed under “inhuman administrative pressure, unrealistic deadlines, and the constant fear of punishment for minor errors.”

The party said Rinku Tarafdar, a BLO from Sasthitala in Nadia, was mentally broken and under unbearable situation.

“The Election Commission’s complex digital processes, impossible timelines, fear of punishment, and overnight surveillance are a form of mental torture imposed on our workers, and this is completely unacceptable,” the TMC statement said.

The party also blamed the BJP for the current situation in view of SIR.
