Maharashtra train accident: Eight passengers dead

Mumbai, Jan 22 (UNI) In a tragic incident, at least eight passengers died on Wednesday when they tried to disembark from the moving Pushpak Express after pulling the alarm chain following a false rumour of a fire on the train near Pachora Railway Station in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district,

According to reports, passengers from the Pushpak Express jumped onto the tracks to escape a suspected fire on the train. As the passengers exited their coaches, they were struck by the incoming Karnataka Express train, resulting in at least eight fatalities..

Central Railway’s chief spokesperson Swapnil Nila said that the accident took place at 5 pm near Pachora station, where Pushpak Express had halted after someone pulled the chain due to a rumour of fire on board he train. Some passengers stepped down and were hit by the oncoming Karnataka Express.

A district official has confirmed the death of eight people in the accident.
