Maha: Stray dogs lose their biggest voice with passing of Ratan Tata

Mumbai, Oct 10 (UNI) Street and pet dogs have lost their biggest voice and champion when industrialist-philanthropist, Ratan Tata, passed away here late on Wednesday.

The bachelor had tremendous attachment with dogs, whom he treated as a family.

Writer Suhel Seth recalled on Thursday that Tata declined an invitation by King Charles (then Prince Charles) to go to Buckingham Palace to receive a lifetime achievement award because one of his dogs was unwell.

MNS president Raj Thackeray, who shared good relationship with Tata, shared a common thread of their love for dogs.

“Stray dogs were welcomed in all Tata Group premises, be it the Taj Mahal Hotel or Bombay House, the headquarters of Tata Sons, where there is a kennel made for the canine friends,” he said.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, too, condoled the death of Tata.

“Ratan ji’s love for animals and compassion was as famous as his business prowess and will always be

remembered. His influence on the community, inspiring many to care for community dogs, and to open their hearts and homes to them, is a testament to his enduring legacy,” said Sachin Bangera, vice-president of Celebrity and Media Relations, PETA India.

Before his death, he could fulfil his desire to have an animal for pets in Mumbai.

The Small Animal Hospital at Mahalaxmi in the heart of Mumbai.

The hospital is a first-of-its-kind and spans over 98,000 sq ft, with a capacity of over 200 beds. It was launched in March 2024.
