Madras HC sets aside acquittal of ex-Cong MLA in DA case

Chennai, Jan 11 (UNI) The Madras High Court has set aside a lower court order acquitting former Vellore Congress MLA C Gnanasekaran and his wife in a disproportionate assets case filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).

The DVAC had filed a case against them for allegedly amassing wealth to the tune of Rs 3.15 crore during his tenure as MLA from 2006 to 2011.

A Special Court in Vellore had in 2016 acquitted Mr Gnanasekaran and his wife Mekala.

However, on a review petition filed by the DVAC, Mr Justice Velmurugan accepting the the DVAC submission that there was no source of income for the Ex-MLA’s wife and that there were prima facie evidences for the charges against them, set aside the lower court order on Friday evening.

The High Court also directed the DVAC to proceed with the case further.
