Lt Gen Harpal Singh takes charge as Director General Border Roads

New Delhi, Jan 1 (UNI) Lt Gen Harpal Singh on Thursday assumed charge as the 29th Director General Border Roads (DGBR), marking the formal taking over of the reins of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

Lt Gen Harpal Singh was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers in June 1991. During his illustrious career spanning more than three decades, he has held a wide range of command, staff and leadership appointments across diverse operational environments.

Prior to assuming the appointment of Director General Border Roads, the General Officer held a senior leadership appointment, wherein he made notable contributions towards strengthening engineering capabilities and infrastructure development, the BRO spokesperson stated.

On assuming charge the new DGBR lauded the tireless efforts, professionalism and commitment of all ranks and CPLs of BRO. On the occasion of New Year 2026, DGBR conveyed his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all personnel, saluting their steadfast service to the Nation and wishing everyone a safe, successful and fulfilling New Year.

Under the DGBR’s dynamic and inspiring leadership, Border Roads Organisation will continue to scale greater heights and achieve bigger milestones, the spokesperson added further.

Raised on May 7, 1960, Border Roads Organisation has been at the forefront of developing strategic infrastructure in some of the most remote, inhospitable and challenging regions of the country.

In support of nation building and enhancement of the operational preparedness of the Armed Forces, BRO has constructed over 63,700 km of roads, 1,179 bridges, seven tunnels and twenty-two airfields, significantly contributing to improved connectivity and socio-economic development of border areas.

Working in the most challenging terrains and extreme weather conditions, BRO personnel consistently display unwavering dedication, resilience and high morale, strengthening critical infrastructure that directly contributes to national security and the socio-economic development of the Nation.
