Bhopal: The Lokayukta team arrested a clerk of the Bhopal Development Authority (BDA) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on Friday afternoon. The accused clerk, Shahabuddin Siddiqui, had allegedly been demanding the bribe in return for approving the transfer of a house.
According to officials, Ghanshyam Rathore, a resident of Berasia Road, had applied for the mutation of his house nearly four months ago. Despite completing all formalities and paying the official fees, the process was deliberately delayed by the clerk, who insisted on an additional Rs 10,000 bribe to move the file forward.
Frustrated by the prolonged delay and corrupt demand, Rathore approached the Lokayukta office and filed a complaint. After verifying the complaint, a trap was set. The team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police R.K. Singh, caught Siddiqui red-handed while accepting the bribe.
Legal action has been initiated against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The incident has raised serious concerns over corruption in the BDA office.
