Lokayukta arrests official taking bribe in welfare scheme

Chhatarpur : A clerk at the Badamalhara Janpad Panchayat has been caught red-handed accepting a bribe, exposing a corrupt practice within a government welfare scheme. The Sagar Lokayukta police arrested Mukesh Verma, a clerk at the Janpad office, while he was taking Rs 10,000 as an installment for a bribe.

The action was initiated based on a complaint from Rahul Lodhi, a beneficiary of the Sambal Yojana. Lodhi had applied for a Rs 2 lakh financial assistance and was allegedly asked to pay a bribe of Rs 20,000 by Verma to process his application.

Lokayukta Inspector Ranjit Singh confirmed the details, stating, “We received the complaint, verified the facts, and set a trap at the Badamalhara Janpad Panchayat office. We successfully apprehended Mukesh Verma while he was in the act of accepting the bribe.”

The incident sheds light on the challenges faced by vulnerable citizens in accessing government aid. The ongoing investigation by the Lokayukta police aims to uncover any wider network of corruption within the department, sending a strong message against such illegal practices.
