Lok Sabha refers Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025 to JPC for detailed review

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) The Lok Sabha Tuesday referred the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, aimed at strengthening higher education institutions, to the Joint Committee of Parliament (JPC) for further examination and wider consultation.
Introduced in the Lok Sabha by union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday, the bill seeks to empower universities and other higher educational institutions to achieve greater excellence in teaching, learning, research, and innovation. It proposes a robust and transparent system of accreditation and autonomy to promote academic and institutional excellence.
The bill faced opposition from some members in the Lok Sabha during its introduction. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju highlighted that several MPs had requested broader consultations on the bill during the Business Advisory Committee meeting.
In response, the government agreed to refer the bill to the JPC to ensure comprehensive review and stakeholder engagement. Rijiju also requested the Speaker to appoint members for the committee’s constitution.
The Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill is envisioned to advance self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) in the higher education sector by fostering a skilled talent pool.
