Life imprisonment for father and brother in honor killing case in Bhopal

Bhopal,  In a landmark verdict, the Court of Smt. Pallavi Dwivedi, Tenth Additional Sessions Judge, on Tuesday, sentenced a father and son to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of their own daughter/sister. Kamal Singh Jangda and Rajkumar were found guilty under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, receiving life sentences with fines of Rs 2,000 each for murder, and seven years rigorous imprisonment with fines of Rs 1,000 each for destroying evidence. Special Public Prosecutor Smt. Vandana Parte represented the state.

The horrifying incident dates back to November 14, 2021, when the body of an unidentified woman was discovered in the Samaspura Pilota drain. The investigation soon revealed a chilling motive: the victim, who had married a man from a different caste, was murdered by her own father, Kamal Singh, and brother, Rajkumar, in a shocking act of honor killing.

Initial clues emerged from a police report filed by Atul Maran, who stated that his tenant, Savita, claimed her father and brother took her younger sister after she spoke with her husband on the phone. Atul and Savita later identified the body and the deceased infant as the victim and her child. Both Kamal Singh and Rajkumar confessed to strangling their daughter/sister and disposing of her body in the forest due to their anger over her inter-caste marriage.
