Bhopal: In a significant move, lawyers practicing in all district courts across Madhya Pradesh will be exempt from wearing the traditional black coat for three months, from April 15 to July 15, 2025. This decision was made by the State Bar Council, considering the intense heat during the summer months.
During this period, lawyers will be allowed to appear in district courts and subordinate courts dressed in a white shirt, paired with black, white, striped, or grey pants, and wearing the advocate’s band. The relief will come as a much-needed comfort for lawyers who often struggle with the sweltering summer heat while maintaining the standard attire.
However, this exemption will only apply to district and subordinate courts. Lawyers appearing in the High Court or Supreme Court will still be required to wear the black coat. The council’s decision is expected to benefit approximately one lakh lawyers across the state, providing them with significant respite during the peak of the summer season.
