Ranchi, June 28 (UNI) The Jharkhand High Court on Friday granted bail to former Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a land scam case, saying that prima facie he is not guilty.
Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyay granted bail to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader on payment of two sureties of ₹ 50,000 each.
Justice Mukhopadhyay, who had reserved his decision on the bail after hearing the arguments earlier, noted that there was no likelihood of Soren committing an offence on bail, a lawyer said.
Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31.
The probe agency has accused Soren of fraudulently acquiring 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi estimated to be worth crores of rupees. The former Chief Minister has denied the charge.
