Seoul, Aug 4 (UNI) Acclaimed South Korean actor Song Young-Kyu, widely recognised for his role in the 2019 smash hit “Extreme Job”, has died at the age of 55.
According to reports from local authorities, Song was found deceased this morning in a parked vehicle within a residential complex in Yongin, just south of Seoul. Police confirmed that the actor’s body was discovered inside a parked car by an acquaintance at approximately 8 a.m. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, reports DEADLINE.
In June this year, Song was caught in a drunk driving incident in Yongin, with a blood alcohol concentration level above the legal threshold for licence revocation.
The case had been forwarded to prosecutors and was awaiting indictment.
After the incident, Song was dropped from two dramas currently in production — The Defects and SBS’ The Winning Try, as well as the stage play “Shakespeare in Love.”
A seasoned actor with a career spanning nearly 30 years, Song made his screen debut in 1994. Song also starred in “Hwarang”, Netflix’s “Narco-Saints” and Disney+’s “Big Bet”.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
