Pyongyang, Aug 4 (UNI) North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called South Korea an “unchangeable enemy” and denounced attempts by South Korean media to exaggerate the damage caused by heavy rains and flooding in North Korea, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Saturday.
Earlier this week, Kim visited flood-affected areas in the border city of Sinuiju and Uiju County in the northwestern province of North Pyongan. He personally supervised the rescue and evacuation of residents, overseeing the efforts of rescue teams using helicopters and boats. More than 4,200 people were rescued, and the North Korean leader has ordered all possible assistance for those affected.
Kim reportedly paid a congratulatory visit on Friday to the helicopter unit of the Korean People’s Army Air Force that performed a rescue mission. He also expressed deep gratitude to the Navy sharpshooter brigade soldiers, maritime guard formation and the General Reconnaissance Bureau.
At the same time, Kim added that South Korea’s media are spreading false information about the number of casualties in the affected areas, which they claim to be over 1,000-1,500, according to the news agency.
The North Korean leader noted that the “enemy remain unchanged,” condemning the “inveterate habits and despicable nature of the ROK scum keen,” the KCNA reported.
On Thursday, South Korea and the Korean Red Cross offered to provide humanitarian aid to North Korea, but Pyongyang ignored the offer.
