Kharge, Rahul express sorrow over passing of Shibu Soren

New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today expressed sorrow over the passing of Shibu Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and the founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

In a post on X, Kharge said, “I am saddened by the demise of Shibu Soren ji — former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, former Union Minister, and founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha”.

“He dedicated his life to the struggle for a separate Jharkhand state, the rights of its people over water, forests, and land, and the preservation of tribal culture,” the leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said.

He said, “I spoke to his son and the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, @HemantSorenJMM, and conveyed my heartfelt condolences to his family and supporters. May God give them strength in this hour of grief,” Kharge said.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi too expressed grief over the passing away of Shibu Soren. “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and senior JMM leader Shibu Soren ji,” Gandhi said.

He further said, “A strong voice of the tribal community, Soren ji dedicated his life to the struggle for their rights and entitlements. His contribution to the formation of Jharkhand will always be remembered. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Hemant Soren ji, the entire Soren family, and all the supporters of Guruji”.

Shibu Soren passed away at the age of 81. He died at Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after a prolonged illness.
