Indore: In a deeply shocking incident, police have detained Sapna Haji, the principal accused, following the mass attempted suicide by 24 transgender persons (Kinnars) in the Nandlalpura area late Wednesday night.
The group consumed a poisonous substance, believed to be phenyl, in a desperate act that rocked the Pandharinath police station limits. Ambulances rushed all affected individuals to MY Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment under the close supervision of district and police administration. Officials report their condition is now stable.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Anand Kaladgi confirmed that Sapna Haji has been taken into custody as part of an intensified investigation, while the search for other culprits continues.
The district administration, led by Collector Shivam Verma, is closely monitoring the situation. Authorities are focused on recording the statements of the victims—including Mahira, Anjali, Roli Kunwar, and others—to ascertain the motive behind this traumatic event and identify the precise nature of the substance consumed. The incident has cast a stark light on the underlying issues facing the community, prompting a swift and sensitive response from local authorities.
