Keralite injured in Qatar after drone debris falls following Iranian attack

Thrissur/Doha, Mar 2 (UNI) A Malayali expatriate from Thrissur sustained injuries in Qatar after debris from a drone, launched as part of an attack attributed to Iran, fell following an interception by Qatari air defence systems.

The injured has been identified as Hisham (48), son of Abubacker, a native of Vengidang Panikkaveettil in Thrissur district. He was reportedly outside with a colleague when the drone was shot down mid-air. Fragments from the destroyed aerial vehicle struck him, causing injuries to his arms and legs.

Hisham, a former student of Sri Kerala Varma College and a university-level cricket player, is currently employed with a private firm in Qatar.

He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Doha, where he underwent emergency surgery on Sunday. Hospital sources indicated that he is under medical care and his condition is being closely monitored.

The incident occurred amid heightened regional tensions, with multiple drones reportedly intercepted over Qatari airspace. While the country’s defence systems successfully neutralised the aerial threats, falling debris has led to isolated civilian injuries, including that of the Kerala expatriate.
