Thiruvananthapuram, July 9 (UNI) The Kerala Police have cautioned the public about rising blood donation scams, with fraudsters exploiting the urgent need for blood by making false promises of arranging donors, collecting large sums of money in advance, and then cheating vulnerable individuals.
The Kerala Police highlighted the increasing number of blood donation-related scams across the state and urged people to stay vigilant.
In an official statement, the Kerala Police mentioned their dedicated platform for blood donations, the Pol-Blood initiative, which promotes legal and voluntary blood donation. The platform has received several complaints about these fraudulent activities.
People in need of blood often post their details on social media, which has made it easier for scam groups to target them. Paid blood donation has been banned in the country since January 1998.
Those in need of blood, as well as willing donors, are encouraged to register with the Pol-Blood app run by the Kerala Police, which promotes legal and safe blood donation.
Complaints related to blood donation scams can be reported via email to polblood.pol@kerala.gov.in.
The Kerala Police emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant against these fraudulent practices in an official release.
