Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 16 (UNI) The upgraded 112 services (Next Generation Emergency Response Support System – ERSS 112) were launched at the Kerala Police Headquarters, providing a single emergency number—112—for police, fire, and ambulance services.
Powered by advanced technology, the new-generation ERSS aims to enhance service availability and ensure faster response. The upgraded system can cut response time by up to three minutes compared to the existing setup.
In addition to existing communication channels such as calls, SOS, SMS, and email, the new system allows the public to register complaints through WhatsApp, web requests, and a chatbot.
With the help of Location Based Service (LBS) and Emergency Location Service (ELS), the complainant’s location can be identified in real time without requiring them to state it, enabling quicker police response.
To ensure uninterrupted communication, all police vehicles have been equipped with tablet computers, mobile phones, and GPS systems. IoT-based security devices, designed to alert others during emergencies and provide quick assistance in critical situations, are also integrated with the ERSS for enhanced safety.
Complaints from other states can be received and, if necessary, transferred to the concerned state authorities.
The Track Me feature in the 112 India mobile application allows citizens to stay in continuous touch with the police and receive timely assistance, particularly while travelling or when alone.
Wherever a person dials 112 in Kerala, the call will be routed to the centralised control room at the Police Headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. Officers there will immediately collect the details and forward them to the nearest police vehicle at the required location.
With GPS support, the control room can track the location of each police vehicle. The message is transmitted directly to the tablet fitted in the vehicle, enabling officers to act without delay.
Even calls from numbers without outgoing facilities or temporarily inactive numbers can be connected to 112. The service is accessible from both mobile and landline phones and can also be obtained through the SOS button in the official police mobile app, Pol-App.
The facility was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan yesterday.
