Kerala Govt doctors to begin indefinite agitation on Jan 13

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 9 (UNI) The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) has announced an indefinite agitation over the State government’s continued failure to address long-pending demands such as pay revision anomalies, pending salary and DA arrears and other issues.

As part of the agitation, the association will boycott teaching activities and non-emergency medical services, citing the government’s failure to resolve problems, including arbitrary transfers, shortage of faculty posts, and inadequate infrastructure in government medical colleges.

The KGMCTA said it has been protesting since July 1, 2025, but despite repeated representations and assurances given during a meeting chaired by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare on November 10, 2025, none of the core issues have been resolved.

In the absence of any concrete action from the government, the doctors have decided to escalate their agitation further.

As part of the agitation, protest programmes were intensified earlier, including relay outpatient department (OP) boycotts. Following this, a meeting was held on November 10, 2025, under the leadership of the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, during which assurances were reportedly given to address the genuine demands of the association. However, KGMCTA alleged that none of the issues raised have been resolved so far.

While continuing the work-to-rule protest and non-cooperation, KGMCTA will begin an indefinite boycott of teaching activities from January 13, 2026. From the following week, all non-emergency medical services will also be boycotted. In addition, a dharna will be held in front of the Secretariat on January 19.

The association clarified that essential health services, including casualty services, labour room, intensive care units, in-patient care, emergency treatments and surgeries, and post-mortem examinations, will be exempted from the protest.
