New Delhi, Dec 24 (UNI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday inaugurated a 24-hour clean water supply in a colony in the Rajinder Nagar constituency, promising to extend uninterrupted access to clean water across Delhi soon.
Addressing the gathering, Kejriwal said, “It was the our dream to provide 24×7 clean drinking water to every household in Delhi. Today, this massive dream takes its first step in Rajinder Nagar.”
“When we took over the government in 2015 and assumed responsibility for Delhi, around 50-60% of the city depended on water tankers, controlled by a massive tanker mafia. Today, after 10 years, more than 97% of Delhi receives water through pipelines. However, not all households have access to 24×7 clean water directly from taps. This journey towards achieving that goal begins here, in DDA Flats, Rajinder Nagar,” he said.
Delhi faced daily power cuts of 8-10 hours when AAP came to power,” the former CM claimed, asserting, “At that time, I promised to ensure 24×7 electricity, and I delivered on that promise.”
“In the next few years, we will ensure clean, 24×7 water supply to the entire city,” he assured.
“In 2015, Delhi produced 900 MGD (million gallons per day) of water. Since then, we have added 100 MGD from groundwater by drilling borewells along the Yamuna banks. To provide a 24×7 water supply, Delhi needs 1,250 MGD. Currently, we produce 1,000 MGD but require an additional 250 MGD, Kejriwal said underscoring that neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana are not providing additional water, we are exploring alternative solutions to secure this.
Reiterating his commitment, the AAP Convenor said, “We will deliver 24×7 water, keep electricity affordable, and continue providing benefits like the Rs. 2,100 under the ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’ and ‘Sanjeevani Yojana.’ Don’t believe those claiming Kejriwal is lying—they are the ones who lie.”
Meanwhile, Delhi CM Atishi highlighted “Ten years ago, when Arvind Kejriwal became Chief Minister, we dreamed of providing every citizen of Delhi with basic amenities—24×7 electricity, water, proper sewer facilities, quality schools, Mohalla Clinics, and good hospitals. Over the past decade, we have consistently worked to make this dream a reality.”
“In water and sewer facilities, significant portions of Delhi previously lacked infrastructure. Under Kejriwal’s leadership, we have built 6,800 kilometers of sewer lines and drainage systems in the last 10 years and laid more than 4,000 kilometers of water pipelines. No other government or leader in Delhi’s history has delivered such extensive infrastructure for the common people,” she emphasized.
Reacting to the initiative, Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia tweeted, “The historic beginning of 24×7 supply of clean water has been made in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal had dreamt that every household in Delhi would get clean water 24 hours a day. Water that can be drunk straight from the tap. Today, the process of turning this dream into reality has begun in Rajinder Nagar.This is not just a water system, but a ‘water’ revolution in the life of every Delhiite.
This effort of Kejriwal ji will end the worries of every mother and bring a smile on the face of every child. This is a step that will lay the foundation of a healthy, safe and happy future for the coming generations.”
