Kejriwal meets family of jailed ex AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, calls case ‘False’

New Delhi, Feb 8 (UNI) Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday met the family members of former AAP MLA from Uttam Nagar, Naresh Balyan, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Sharing details on social media, Kejriwal alleged that Balyan has been kept in jail for nearly a year through what he described as false cases by the BJP. He said Balyan remains strong despite the situation and claimed that his family and local party workers are firmly standing by him. Kejriwal expressed confidence that justice would prevail and that Balyan would be released soon.

Balyan’s legal troubles continue as a Delhi court had earlier dismissed his bail plea, citing lack of sufficient grounds for relief. This was his second bail application in the case, which was heard while he appeared through video conferencing from jail. Another bail plea was also rejected earlier this year, with the court accepting the police argument that the investigation was at a crucial stage and his release could affect the probe.

Delhi Police had filed two chargesheets in the matter, including a supplementary one against Balyan and three other accused under stringent MCOCA provisions. The case is linked to an alleged organised crime syndicate run by gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu. While Balyan was granted bail in a separate extortion case, he continues to remain behind bars in the MCOCA case.
