Dehradun Oct 23 (UNI) A day after closure of Gangotri Temple, portals of Kedarnath Temple were closed for the winter as abode of lord Shiva was shifted to Omkareshwar Temple at Ukhimath. Kedarnath portals closure ceremony was held as per religious rituals in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dham. Portals of Kedarnath temple were formally closed today for the winter season after a formal traditional Puja with Dhami as host.
The CM performed puja with prayers for the well being of the people of the Uttarakhand and rest of India. Speaking to the local priests and Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) members, Dhami said that Kedarnath Shrine registered a record footfall of the devotees this year.
He said “this year Chardham pilgrimage was better planned and organised as compared to the past leading to its huge success. Char Dham Yatra not only plays important role in the economy of the state but also connects Devbhoomi Uttarakhand with Sanatan Dharma followers across the world.”
Chief Minister took stock of the ongoing development works at Kedarnath Township known as Kedarpuri and said various developmental projects are in progress at Char Dham temple and the temples associated with Manaskhand region mainly in Kumaon.
It is significant that as per Vikram Samvat Hindu Calander, Gangotri shrine portals are shut every year on the occasion of Govardhan Puja while closure of Kedarnath Shrine portals always coincides with Bhai Dooj. As per calender pilgrimage to Badrinath shrine can still go on for more than a month for its scheduled to be closed in November 25, 2025.
