Bhopal: The Kayastha community in Madhya Pradesh marked the auspicious festival of Bhai Dooj (Yama Dwitiya) today with traditional fervor, conducting a special puja of Lord Chitragupta and the symbolic pen and inkpot (kalam-dawat) at the Shri Chitragupta Temple in Professor Colony. The ceremony saw leaders and members of the Kayastham Madhya Pradesh organization pledge renewed dedication to social service and community welfare.
= Demand for Mandatory Holiday Reiterated for Bhai Dooj
Following the ritualistic worship and aarti, Kayastham’s focus turned to a crucial civic demand: the declaration of Bhai Dooj as a mandatory government holiday. Currently, the festival is observed as only an optional holiday. Citing its status as one of the most sacred festivals celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters after Rakhi, the organization urged the state government to recognize its cultural significance.
To emphasize their demand, Kayastham leaders symbolically placed a copy of their memorandum at the feet of Lord Chitragupta. They announced plans to urgently bring the matter to the attention of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, reiterating their request first made last year. Key members, including Vice Presidents R.P. Srivastava and Suresh Srivastava, Treasurer Mukul Asthana, and Dr. Rekha Srivastava, were present for the special worship and the crucial announcement.
