- Special ‘Chauth Thalis’ hit Bhopal stalls
Bhopal: The city’s markets are abuzz with activity as preparations for Karwa Chauth, the auspicious festival observed by married women for their husbands’ longevity, commence. Celebrated annually on the fourth day of the Hindu month of Kartik, the festival involves a strict nirjala fast from sunrise until the moon sighting.
In New Market, Haat Bazaars are swiftly being set up by vendors from Sehore, Roshanpura, and Jahangirabad. These stalls are drawing crowds with traditional offerings, including the highly sought-after, specially crafted Karwa Chauth Thalis.
Traditional gear and unique designs
Vendors like Gayatri Jogi from Sehore are offering complete puja kits for just Rs 150, which include the karwa, sindoor, sieve, and a calendar. Meanwhile, 12-year-old Gautam Choubey is selling a premium, specially designed Thali set for Rs 280, featuring intricate craftsmanship on the plate, lota (pot), and sieve.
Shopper Neeta Patel expressed the deep sentiment behind the traditional ritual, noting, “After fasting all day, the women break the fast by viewing the moon through the sieve and then seeing their husband’s face.” Despite Sunday’s rush, vendors anticipate sales will soar as the festival approaches, with early birds securing prime market spots.
